Miami, Florida

In support of the Michael Baisden’s One Million Mentoring Tour to Save Our Youth, I attended Baisden’s New Year’s Fundraiser in Miami, where the proceeds supported the tour launch for February, 2010. My reasons were 1. The idea of bringing in the New Year with a different cause seemed exciting, and 2. I supported Baisden’s idea in reaching out to parents regarding their son or daughter’s future. Since then, Steve Harvey has developed a Mentoring Program for young men in the Chicago area but still, our youth and young adults seemingly are functioning out of confusion as it pertains to their identity and goals, which often causes me to pose the question, “What can I do to help?” Just little ole me; and I’m reminded to start with home. Take care of home first – then pursue other ventures outside to bring others into a healthy environment. It may only take a simple, “I’m sorry for hurting you as I did when I…” or “I want to help you but I need help myself.” Within my own family, I aim at having family time the best way my family and I know how with those who are willing to have family time. Because the other end of the spectrum is, if family rejects you, dust the dirt off your back and ask for the family you desire.

Since I began this post referring to the Michael Baisden syndicated radio talk show mentoring program, I believe I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the cancelling of his show and the cancellation of Tom Joyner’s radio talk show in selective cities. Now duly acknowledged, I conclude by restating my own question “What will I do?” to pose the question back to you, “What will you do?” As Baisden asked in one of his blog posts, “What’s your plan?”
